Frequently Asked Questions
Eyelash Extensions FAQ
Q: What are eyelash extensions?

A: Semi-permanent eyelash extensions are synthetic lashes that are adhered to individual, natural eyelashes. Unlike false or strip lashes, extensions are attached one by one to individual eyelashes and NOT to your skin. Extensions enhance your natural beauty by adding length and fullness to your existing lashes. They allow you to wake up looking radiant and ready to go, without a swipe of mascara!

Q: How long do eyelash extensions last?
A: When properly cared for, your eyelash extensions will last until your natural eyelashes fall out as they normally would. Exact timing varies because of genetics and lifestyle, however, the average shedding of natural lashes takes place at the rate of two to five lashes per day. To maintain your look, see Ooh La Lash and Beauty for a lash fill every two to three weeks.
Q: Are eyelash extensions safe?
A: Yes. When properly applied, eyelash extensions are a safe and convenient alternative to wearing mascara and strip lashes.

Q: I've heard eyelash extensions make your natural lashes fall out. Is this true?
A: No, it is not true. When properly applied and cared for, eyelash extensions will not harm your natural lashes. Instead, your natural lash will shed as it normally does, taking the extension with it. A new lash will grow in its place.

THE EYELASH EXTENSIONS PROCESS

Q: How do I prepare for my appointment?
A: Come to your appointment with make up free, clean eyes. This ensures that Kelli can focus on adding lashes and not subtracting makeup. Please arrive 5 minutes early to ensure a parking spot!
Q: What happens during a full set eyelash extension appointment?
A: While laying on your back, Kelli will discuss the look you want to achieve and add her professional opinion about what is safe for your natural lashes as well as what will last the longest. Kelli will cover your lower lashes for protection, then begin the process of individually adhering extensions to your natural lashes. This procedure is safe, painless and relaxing. Lash naps are welcomed and encouraged! To conclude, Kelli will remove the protective covering from your lashes and give you a first look at your new eyes, and then poof, your life will be changed!
Q: How long will my eyelash extensions appointment take?
A: The type of appointment you chose will determine the timing of your appointment. Please refer to our Services Menu to learn more about appointment lengths.
Q: I had my lash extensions applied somewhere else. Can I still get my fill at Ooh La Lash and Beauty?

A: Yes! Since lash styling and technique can vary so widely from salon to salon, Ooh La Lash and Beauty requires clients with lashes from an outside salon to book a “New Client Consultation/Transition Fill.” This service provides Kelli with enough time to fully assess your existing extensions and determine the best route for you! To preserve the health of your natural lashes, she may not be able to fill the existing work (generally is the case of improper application), and may instead recommend a removal and application of a fresh full set. Feel free to give Kelli a call if you have any questions!
Q: Help! I don't like my lashes from somewhere else. What can you do?
A: Kelli is happy to help! If the lashes are unsafely applied, she may recommend removal and replacement with a fresh, customized Classic Full Set.

CARING FOR YOUR EYELASH EXTENSIONS

Q: How do I care for my eyelash extensions?
A: Caring for your extensions is simple! Avoid rubbing your eyes, and allowing excessive sweat to drip down into your lash line. Be gentle with them, and sleep mindfully! Do not curl them, and avoid all oil-based products near your eyes (makeup, makeup remover, sunscreen, etc.). Use Borboleta’s Lash Bath Cleanser or Baby Shampoo to keep them squeaky clean!

Q: Can I wear eye makeup with eyelash extensions?

A: Extensions are so remarkable on their own and you will enjoy the fact that you may not need any additional enhancement. After all, our goal is to take the place of your mascara!
However, if you just can’t live without your eyeliner or mascara, go ahead. Just make sure it’s water-soluble and oil-free.
Oils used in facial and makeup products can loosen the adhesive bond, causing the extension to separate from the natural lash and fall off prematurely.
When you remove your makeup, be gentle. Please be advised that even if you choose to wear oil-free makeup, there’s added "wear-and-tear" and a chance that your bonds may still be loosened resulting in premature fallout.
Dermaplaning FAQ
Q: Will my hair grow back thicker after getting a dermaplane service?
A: No. This is physiologically impossible. There are two types of hair that grow on your body. Vellus hair, which when cut or removed will grow back the same size and shape, therefore, the main structure of vellus hair does not change and is not altered by dermaplaning. Terminal hair however, is physiologically coarse. When this hair type is cut it will always grow back coarse.
Dermaplaning is designed to treat the vellus hair, which is located on the face. Once vellus hair is cut it will maintain a blunt edge and this blunt edge will not physiologically alter the hair itself.
Q: How often can I get a dermaplane service?
A: Dermaplaning is usually performed every three to four weeks. Treating the skin in this manner actually removes about two-three weeks worth of dead skin cells. The skin needs to complete its normal thirty day rejuvenation cycle before the treatment is done again.
Q: Is there any downtime after dermaplaning?
A: The great thing about dermaplaning is that there is no downtime. You will walk out of the studio with fresh, glowing skin.
Q: Does the skin peel from dermaplaning?

A: Occasionally the skin will peel after a dermaplane. If the procedure is done too soon, the growth cycle of your hair may not be complete; therefore you are treating skin unnecessarily which may cause the skin to peel.

Microneedling FAQ
Q: How many microneedling treatments do I need?

A: Some clients only require a single treatment, once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most clients to receive a series of 4-6 treatments spaced about 6 weeks apart. For clients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6 week intervals.

Q: Is there any downtime from microneedling skin?
A: There is some mild swelling and redness after a micro-needling treatment that usually lasts for several hours. Some clients can be red for several days, which can easily be covered with makeup (you must wait at least 12 hours to apply makeup). Post-treatment the skin will feel warm, tight and itchy for a short while. This is a normal response. Occasionally, the client might have some light peeling on those with more sensitive skin types.
Be sure to plan your first micro-needling session appropriately with your calendar. Each person handles it differently. An hour after your treatment, all the channels have closed and you can apply makeup to hide the redness.

Q: How long does microneedling the face take?
A: Microneedling takes about from the time you walk in the door till you walk out. We cleanse the skin first, apply a topical anesthetic, then infuse the skin with Hyaluronic Acid while micro-needling to add important healing, nourishment and moisture content to the cells. Skin brighteners and healing agents are applied afterwards to boost your results.
Q: What does microneedling feel like?
A. Microneedling feels similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin. Expect areas around the eyes and forehead to be a little more sensitive but the short-time discomfort is well worth the results. Most people then find that the treatment is very easy to have done and easy to recover from.

Q: What can I expect after the microneedling treatment?
A: Immediately following micro-needling expect the skin to be red and flushed, similar to mild sunburn. Some clients will experience mild swelling, tightness, and pinpoint bleeding, which can last 24 – 72 hours. Total healing time depends of the depth of the treatment; skin type and skin condition and one can expect slight peeling and dry skin.
Q: Are there any side effects of microneedling?

A: Side effects and risks are minimal with this treatment and typically include minor flaking or dryness of the skin, and some mild crusting. Since this is a non-ablative treatment hyper-pigmentation or darkening of the skin area treated is highly unlikely.
Q: When will I see results from microneedling?
A. Clients typically notices an immediate glow within the first few days, but visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
Q: How many microneedling treatments will I need?
A. Some clients only require a single treatment, once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most clients to receive a series of 4-6 treatments spaced about 6 weeks apart.
